Yesterday we wrote about the little known “Lift Seat” which is a very inexpensive and portable device for anyone who needs help rising to a standing position from a chair. Today we will talk about an even less known (but incredibly useful) lifting chair called a commode lift.

These chairs can be purchased as either a stand-alone unit with a slide out basin underneath, placed over an existing toilette or be used in both ways depending on the make and model. Most models will be in the $150-$300 range, and some models may be used in a dual purpose role as a shower chair also.
Utilizing many of the same features as the pneumatic lift seat, these chairs harness the weight of the user when they sit on them to compress a small piston, when the user wishes to get back up they usually will need to press a release button/lever and then shift their weight forward triggering the mechanism to start lifting.
As with lift seats however, their are certain issues to keep in mind: Commode lifts require a certain amount of dexterity/and or strength to operate, they usually work best for people of average height and weight, those on the low or high end of either category may not reap as much benefit from a pneumatic device.
That being said however, for an individual looking to make the bathroom as accessible as possible while still maintaining their privacy and independence they are definitely worth checking out!

Yeah, shopping for a commode chair can be quite a challenge, especially if you use them in the shower, they can wear out pretty quick and no one seems to know that much about them and which ones are best or worst.
I hate shopping in person for a commode chair, so it is nice to be able to do it online. that being said, it seems like there should be more types of commodes to choose from. Are there more models that your site just has not been able to review yet? Or do you only cover company chairs from Golden Technology, etc.?
